Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has apologised after being photographed holding up an offensive message directed towards North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Cazorla was pictured with a fan alongside former Arsenal winger Robert Pires holding up a piece of paper that read: "What do we think of Tottenham? Shit! What do we think of shit? Tottenham!"

However, the Spaniard has now said sorry to Spurs fans on behalf of himself and Pires for any offence they caused, claiming that they could not see what was written on the sign.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League table, eight points clear of Spurs, who sit fifth.
