Club legend Ian Wright has hit out at Arsenal's performance during their 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday evening.
As well as moving clear of their opponents, the Gunners had the opportunity to move to within three points of Premier League leaders Leicester City.
However, Mikel Arteta witnessed his side get thoroughly outplayed at the Emirates Stadium, ensuring that the club remained off the pace in the top flight.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Wright acknowledged that his former club were well below par, describing the display as one of the worst that he had seen in recent years.
Wright said: "It's as bad a performance as I've seen from an Arsenal side when you consider that only two of them were playing in the week.
"I know that Villa came to close down, but the sloppy play, you heard Mikel mention it, it was poor in every department. A million miles away from the performance against Manchester United.
"We know that Arsenal's game against United away from home is going to be counter-attacking. When they've got the onus and they've got to push forward, then they don't really create enough chances. They were streets ahead of us today."
Arsenal are next in action when they face Leeds United at Elland Road on November 22.
