How Arsenal could line up against Southampton

Sports Mole looks at how out-of-form Arsenal could line up for Wednesday's Premier League clash with high-flying Southampton at the Emirates.

Arsenal will be looking to end their dreadful run of home form when they welcome high-flying Southampton to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.

A sorry 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Sunday made it four consecutive home league losses for the Gunners, and seven defeats in their last 10 Premier League outings home or away to leave them 15th.

Manager Mikel Arteta has seen his position come under increasing scrutiny as a result, and another defeat in midweek would pile the pressure on his shoulders even more.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how he could set his side out as he attempts to stop the rot.

Out: Granit Xhaka (suspended), Hector Bellerin (suspended), Thomas Partey (thigh)
Doubtful: Gabriel Martinelli (knee), David Luiz (head), Reiss Nelson (head), Sead Kolasinac (undisclosed)

Arsenal will be missing both Granit Xhaka and Hector Bellerin to suspension for this match, with the former having been shown a straight red card for grabbing Ashley Westwood's throat in the defeat to Burnley.

Xhaka will now miss the next three games, while Bellerin will only miss this one after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out.

There is better news regarding Nicolas Pepe, who returns from a three-game ban of his own and will be knocking on the door to start amid Willian's wayward form.

Indeed, all of Arsenal's attackers are misfiring at the moment, with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's own goal on Sunday adding salt into the wound, but Arteta is expected to keep faith with his skipper for now.

David Luiz and Reiss Nelson must be assessed after sustaining head injuries, although reports of a fallout between Luiz and Arteta suggest that the Brazilian may not feature regardless.

Sead Kolasinac is also a major doubt, while Gabriel Martinelli continues to work his way back from a long-term knee injury and has now come through a youth-team game unscathed.

Dani Ceballos is the most likely to come in for Xhaka with Thomas Partey still sidelined, but aside from that Arteta must decide whether to stick with the team that lost at home to Burnley or shake things up following such a poor performance.
