Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph admits that he was elated to lead his side to a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion and help them reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has revealed his delight at guiding his side to the semi-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of their 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

The 25-year-old assumed the captain's armband due to an injury to Ron Vlaar, and put in good performance as he scored Villa's first goal before Scott Sinclair added a second to secure the victory.

Delph could now lead Tim Sherwood's men out at Wembley, depending on the fitness of Vlaar, in their last-four clash against either Liverpool or Blackburn Rovers.

He told the club's official website: "To captain such a huge club to Wembley is an amazing feeling. It was important to get the first goal and I felt we came out in the second half and had a right good go.

"The end result was ours and it's a Wembley trip for us now. We certainly have a lot of confidence in the camp. Overall it was a big chance to get to Wembley and there was no way we weren't going to do it."

The triumph was marred at the end of the game by a pitch invasion at Villa Park, where Delph conceded that he was bitten and had his armband stolen.
