Lamine Yamal created another piece of history when he took to the field for Barcelona's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The 16-year-old has set a host of records during an incredible start to his career at Barcelona, and he is also currently Spain's youngest-ever player and goalscorer.

Yamal made his 41st club appearance of the season on Wednesday, with the forward being named in the starting side for the European contest in Paris.

The Spaniard has become the youngest player to appear in a Champions League quarter-final at the age of 16 years and 272 days old, surpassing the previous record, which had been set by Lyon's Rayan Cherki in 2020.

Yamal played 61 minutes of the clash with Luis Enrique's side before being replaced by Joao Felix.

Raphinha sent Barcelona ahead in the 37th minute of the last-eight first leg, before PSG turned the game around early in the second half through Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha.

The La Liga champions levelled it up at 2-2 with Raphinha's second of the match in the 62nd minute, though, before Andreas Christensen scored a winner for Xavi's side in the 77th minute.

The Catalan outfit will therefore have a lead to protect when the two teams lock horns for the second leg of the quarter-final next week.

Barcelona will continue their La Liga campaign away to Cadiz on Saturday evening, and they will be bidding to make it six straight wins in all competitions ahead of the return game with PSG.

The Spanish champions are unbeaten since Xavi announced that he would be standing down as head coach this summer, which came after a 5-3 home loss to Villarreal on January 27.

Yamal is already a vital player for Barcelona

Yamal will not turn 17 until July, but such is his performance level, he is already regarded as a key figure for Barcelona, being trusted to start games such as the clash in Paris.

The Spaniard has contributed four goals and six assists in 29 La Liga appearances during the 2023-24 campaign, and he started the team's last league fixture with Las Palmas at the end of March.

Yamal has also now featured in every one of Barcelona's nine Champions League matches this season, with six of those outings arriving from the first whistle.

The forward had two shots during the clash with PSG, while he also completed three successful dribbles and finished with a pass success rate of 75% in the French capital. body check tags ::
