Barcelona have moved to play down fears that Lionel Messi could be facing a spell on the sidelines by revealing that the recent foot injury he picked up has shown signs of improvement.
The 27-year-old sustained the damage during Barca's 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in last month's El Clasico meeting, which forced him to sit out both of Argentina's international friendlies over the past seven days.
However, having taken part in a light training session earlier today - a day earlier than expected - Messi is likely to make a return to action against Celta Vigo this weekend.
"The inflammation of Messi's foot has improved and the player will attempt to join the rest of the internationals tomorrow," a club statement read.
Barcelona currently lead the way in La Liga prior to the return of club football this weekend, sitting four points ahead of closest challengers Real Madrid.
