Bayer Leverkusen have failed to extend their lead over third-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, falling to a 3-1 defeat at the Volkswagen Arena.
Bas Dost fired the hosts ahead after 13 minutes, receiving the ball from Ivan Perisic before firing into the bottom corner.
Leverkusen levelled the contest on the brink of half time, with Sidney Sam beating Diego Benaglio in the Wolfsburg goal.
With just short of an hour played, Dieter Hecking's side regained the lead courtesy of Luiz Gustavo, who struck a left-footed shot into the back of the net from close range.
The home side had the chance to extend their lead on 72 minutes, but Ricardo Rodriguez failed to initially convert from the penalty spot following a Roberto Hilbert foul on Daniel Caligiuri. However, the defender capitalised from the follow-up to ensure Wolfsburg had some breathing space.
Leverkusen tried to get back into the match but failed to find a way through, and Die Wolfe held out for all three points.
