Paris Saint-Germain have a chance to mark their 50th anniversary season with an unprecedented quadruple as they prepare to take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

Thomas Tuchel's side were crowned Ligue 1 champions in April after the 2019-20 campaign was curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic, winning 22 of their 27 matches.

PSG then returned to action in July and wrapped up both domestic cups - the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue - in the space of a week.

Ahead of Sunday's Champions League final showdown with a rampant Bayern, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the French giants' domestic and European campaigns.

Ligue 1

A unique campaign in many ways, PSG's 2019-20 started in a fairly disappointing manner after suffering defeat to Rennes in just their second league game.

In fact, all three of their league losses last season came in their opening 12 matches, also going down 2-0 at home to Reims and 2-1 at Dijon.

Nantes were PSG's closest challengers at this point, although an eight-point gap at the summit would only increase as the campaign went on.

It was business as usual for Tuchel's men after losing to the division's bottom side, winning 13 and drawing two of their remaining 15 matches.

All matches were suspended in France on March 13, at which point PSG were 12 points clear of Marseille with a game in hand.

The division was settled on a points-per-game basis and the capital club were officially crowned champions the following month - part one of their quadruple dream.

Coupe de France & Coupe de la Ligue

PSG had won the Coupe de France four seasons running prior to a shock early exit in 2018-19, but they still entered this year's tournament as runaway favourites.

They had no trouble in progressing through the early stages, scoring nine goals without conceding against Linas-Montlhery, Lorient and Pau FC.

Dijon were expected to provide a tougher test in the quarter-finals but a one-sided tie ended 6-1 in PSG's favour, and Tuchel's side then shrugged off Lyon 5-1 in the semis.

Following a four-month hiatus, the French giants beat 10-man Saint-Etienne a month ago through Neymar's early goal to get their hands on another piece of silverware.

Their Coupe de la Ligue campaign was just as routine, in fact, as they cruised to thumping wins over Le Mans, Saint-Etienne and Reims to reach another final.

A week on from lifting the Coupe de France, Tuchel's charges edged Lyon on penalties following a goalless draw to win the last ever Coupe de la Ligue.

Champions League

Winning all three domestic trophies on offer, plus the Trophee des Champions, is not unique for PSG. Indeed, it is how they do in the Champions League that defines their season.

They kicked off their European campaign in style with a 3-0 win over Real Madrid in a tricky Group A, before winning their next three games without conceding.

A 2-2 draw with Madrid at the Bernabeu aside, PSG won their five other group games without conceding, seeing them enter the knockout rounds as the competition's form side.

PSG so often fall short on the biggest stage, however, and that looked like being the case once again when losing 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund in their last-16 first leg.

However, Neymar inspired the Red and Blues to a 2-0 win at an empty Parc des Princes in the return fixture to send his side through 3-2 on aggregate.

The tournament then moved to Lisbon for the quarter-finals onwards, with a one-legged tie against big-scoring surprise package Atalanta up next.

PSG trailed 1-0 in that memorable match with the 90 minutes up, only to somehow win the match 2-1 in normal time - Marquinhos and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on target late on.

Another surprise package in RB Leipzig awaited in the semi-finals, but what many hoped would be another thrilling tie turned into a one-sided affair.

Tuchel's side dominated pretty much from the off and eased to a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Marquinhos, Angel Di Maria and Juan Bernat.

Now only Bayern stand between Les Parisiens and immortality.
