Sports Mole analyses Juventus's clash with Bayern Munich, in which the German side ran out 4-0 aggregate winners.

Juventus hosted Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final having lost 2-0 in the first leg in Germany.

In a first half of few chances the sides went in level, but Bayern came out in the second half a completely different side.

They controlled the play and eased any slight concerns with a goal from Mario Mandzukic before Claudio Pizarro made it 4-0 on aggregate late on.

Here, Sports Mole analyses the action to see if the right team reached the semi-finals.

Match statistics:

Juventus:
Shots 8
On target 4
Possession 44%
Corners 3
Fouls 13

Bayern:
Shots 16
On target 8
Possession 56%
Corners 7
Fouls 15

Was the result fair?

Absolutely. The sides were quite even in the first half but after the break Bayern passed with patience and accuracy and eventually just ground the life out of their opponents. They had more possession and more chances across both legs and as such went through worryingly comfortably 4-0.

Juventus's performance

They just did not have the urgency or creativity to hurt Bayern. In the first half they pressed well early on but throughout the whole game they struggled to create chances from open play. After the opening goal they barely ventured into the Bayern half. All in all, they were below par.

Bayern's performance

It wasn't vintage Bayern by any means, but nor did it need to be. They were calm, composed and efficient, and there was clearly a lot more to come from them. At the back they were strong in the air and on the ground, and although Arjen Robben was wasteful with his shooting, they controlled the tempo of the game.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Bastian Schweinsteiger: Aside from creating the second goal with a fantastic turn to remove two Juve defenders from the game, he was at the heart of his side's passing. He delivered a number of excellent free kicks and got up and down the field when needed to make himself open for the pass at every occasion. He played the deep midfield role to perfection.

Biggest gaffe

There were few mistakes in the game really, so this award has to go to Robben for his misses, and one in particular. With the score at 0-0, Robben was allowed acres of space on the edge the box but he somehow struck the post with his effort. All his other shots were wayward in what was a poor showing from the Dutchman.

Referee performance

Carlos Velasco Carballo was too picky. He set his stall out early by booking Mandzukic when in fact the striker was fouled by Giorgio Chiellini. As such, some of the players looked to take advantage of his pettiness by going to ground too easily.

What next?

Juventus: The Italian side will have to quickly forget about this defeat and turn their attention back to winning the league. They are in pole position but a tricky trip to Lazio awaits them on Monday night.

Bayern: The Germans have already wrapped up the Bundesliga, so can now focus entirely on the Champions League. Their home match with Nuremberg on Saturday will be a chance for some fringe players to show what they can do.
