Bayern Munich continued their bid for glory in the Champions League by thrashing Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 in the second leg of their last-16 tie this evening.

An early red card for Olexandr Kucher handed a penalty to the hosts, and it was Thomas Muller who started the scoring with a calm finish from 12 yards.

Muller would finish with a brace, and goals from Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery, Holger Badstuber, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze ensured it was a comfortable night at the Allianz Arena for Pep Guardiola's side.

BAYERN MUNICH

Goal

Manuel Neuer: It's difficult to offer a critique on a goalkeeper who was nothing more than a passenger. Shakhtar failed to get a shot on target to test the World Cup winner. (6/10)

Defence

Rafinha: Given the chance to play as a right-winger for most of the match as the hosts dominated, but his crossing was disappointing before setting up the fifth goal. (6/10)

Jerome Boateng: Enjoyed pushing up into midfield to get involved in the attacks with his creative teammate. Scored the second from close range and showed brilliant skill on the wing to create Gotze's goal. (8/10)

Holger Badstuber: He continues to improve following a couple of injury-wrecked years. Solid at the back and delighted the crowd by getting a goal of his own. (7/10)

David Alaba: A constant threat on the wing alongside Ribery for the first hour, before fading as Bayern's attackers took control in the latter stages of the game. (7/10)

Midfield

Bastian Schweinsteiger: Difficult to remember the captain giving the ball away. Efficient with the ball at his feet and a driving force from deeper positions with his fine range of passing. (8/10)

Mario Gotze: Often on the fringes of the game, but came to life in the final third of the pitch. Troubled the visiting defence with his clever passing and found the bottom corner with a fine finish. (7/10)

Arjen Robben: Looked threatening early on before being forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring strain. (5/10)

Franck Ribery: Shakhtar couldn't handle the Frenchman. The winger threatened out wide and in the middle of the pitch with his direct running at the heart of the defence. Scored an excellent goal after linking with partner in crime Alaba. (8/10)

Attack

Thomas Muller: A tireless display from the forward. Calm from the spot and equally composed finding the net with his second goal. Linked up well with midfield, but always willing to run into the channels to give his side a different option. (8/10)

Robert Lewandowski: Frustrated at times as he was forced to wait for the goal, but his physical presence played a key role in allowing Bayern to retain possession for long spells. Eventually found the net with a low effort after an excellent first touch. (7/10)

Substitutes

Sebastian Rode: A mature display from the young midfielder, who refused to force the issue despite being marked closely for much of the match. Created chance after chances with his brilliant passing. (7/10)

Juan Bernat: Picked up from where Ribery left off. Tricky on the ball with his positive running on the left wing. (6/10)

Dante: Asked to do very little after coming off the bench to replace Badstuber with just over 20 minutes remaining. (5/10)

SHAKHTAR DONETSK

Goal

Andriy Pyatov: Possibly could have kept out Badstuber's header, but powerless to prevent Bayern from creating regular chances with ease. (5/10)

Defence

Darijo Srna: Clear from the first whistle that the captain would not be allowed to attack as he would have liked. Troubled throughout Ribery's hour-long stay on the pitch. (5/10)

Olexandr Kucher: It's unfair to place all of the blame on the centre-back, but diving into a challenge on Gotze to receive a red card in just the third minute was simply unforgivable. (1/10)

Yaroslav Rakitskiy: Caught out of position regularly by Muller's clever running, despite showing impressive ability against the more physical Lewandowski. (5/10)

Vyacheslav Shevchuk: Looked unsure when Bayern's wide players drifted into the middle of the pitch. Kept Gotze relatively quiet, but never appeared calm on the ball. (5/10)

Midfield

Fred: Too eager to foul his rivals in a congested midfield. The Brazilian was unable to get near Schweinsteiger, who controlled the game from a deeper position. (5/10)

Taras Stepanenko: Never stopped running in the middle of the pitch as he desperately searched for a way to stop Bayern's dominance. A battling display, but he had very little impact on the game. (6/10)

Douglas Costa: Fortunate to avoid a red card when he clashed with both Ribery and Boateng in the first half, and he often left his defensive assignment to put his teammates under pressure. (4/10)

Taison: Forced off in just the ninth minute of the match as Shakhtar looked to produce a response to the early red card. (3/10)

Alex Teixeira: Unlike Costa, the attacking midfielder showed a willingness to track back, but he couldn't get on the ball enough to make an impact at the other end. (5/10)

Attack

Luiz Adriano: A prolific group stage was followed by two disappointing displays in this tie as the lone striker failed to shrug off the attention of the impressive Boateng. (3/10)

Substitutes

Serhiy Kryvtsov: Thrown into the firing line in just the ninth minute, and joined his teammates in struggling to cope with Bayern's roaming attackers. Often outmuscled by Lewandowski and Muller, too. (5/10)

Ilsinho: Unable to provide a spark from the bench in the final 10 minutes as Bayern comfortably retained possession. (4/10)
