Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Neymar will miss Wednesday's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian has scored 18 goals and contributed 17 assists across 29 competitive appearances for PSG this season.

Neymar was stretchered off during the club's dramatic 4-3 victory over Lille in February with an ankle injury.

As a result, the 31-year-old was unable to feature in PSG's comfortable 3-0 win against bitter rivals Marseille last weekend, but the French champions were holding out hope that he may recover in time to face Bayern on Wednesday.

However, speaking ahead of Saturday's home meeting with Nantes, Galtier revealed that Neymar will miss their next two matches.

"He will be out," Galtier told reporters. "I think that he will miss out against Bayern. His absence will be detrimental to us.

"Our block is much more compact, denser. With the absence of Neymar, instead of having two midfielders, we will be with three midfielders and two attackers.

"To tell you that Neymar's absence is trivial...no. It's a detrimental absence for us."

The news will come as a blow to PSG, who have been trying to win the Champions League ever since being taken over by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.

The Parisians are currently trailing in their last-16 tie after losing the first leg at the Parc des Princes by a 1-0 scoreline following a second-half strike from Kingsley Coman.

PSG will try to turn the tie around when they travel to the Allianz Arena in midweek, but Galtier has urged his side to focus on Saturday's league game.

"The most important game is the one that's coming," Galtier said. "Our squad is weakened by suspensions and injuries, we have to make our way in the league.

"I hope the players don't have the game against Bayern on Wednesday in a corner of their heads. It's important to have a third consecutive victory in the league."

PSG have established an eight-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table, leaving them on course to retain their league title.

However, after being knocked out of the Coupe de France by Marseille last month, Galtier will be under pressure to guide his team into the last eight of the Champions League. body check tags ::
