A thrilling 45 minutes of football has ended with Schalke 04 taking a 2-1 into the half-time interval of their Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
Any suggestion that the game would start in cagey fashion was quickly forgotten when Schalke broke the deadlock in the 10th minute through Joel Matip, who found space inside the box to meet Dennis Aogo's corner with a powerful header.
Dortmund responded well with an extended spell of pressure, but the hosts held firm thanks to some stubborn defensive work at the back.
However, it was Schalke who found the next goal as Adrian Ramos failed to clear the danger after Roman Weidenfeller had saved Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's header, allowing Maxim Choupo-Moting to slot home.
An entertaining first half was far from over as Dortmund hit back three minutes later when Ramos played in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who fired into the bottom corner to reduce the deficit.
