Yoane Wissa scored a 95th-minute winner as Brentford beat Bournemouth 2-1 in the Premier League at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The contest was goalless until the 87th minute, when Bryan Mbeumo sent the Bees ahead, but Dominic Solanke then levelled the scores with a brilliant header in the 90th minute.

Brentford were not finished, though, scoring a second in the five minute of added time through Wissa to secure all three points in their penultimate match of the 2023-24 campaign.

Thomas Frank's side stay 16th in the table, now on 39 points from 37 matches, while Bournemouth have dropped one position to 11th.

Wissa decides the contest late on

Keane Lewis-Potter came close to sending Brentford ahead in the early stages with a right-footed effort, but Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers was on hand to make a smart save.

The hosts took control of the contest soon after, with Antoine Semenyo striking just over the crossbar before turning provider for Solanke, who might have done better with a close-range header.

Solanke thought that he had made the breakthrough in the 27th minute after smart work from Semenyo, but the goal was disallowed for a VAR check, with the latter penalised for handball.

Solanke had another one chalked off late in the half, with the striker fouling Kristoffer Ajer, and the two teams were level at the end of what was an open first period of action.

Brentford shaded the possession in the opening 45 minutes, having 59% of the ball, but Bournemouth managed six shots to the away side's four in Dorset.

Bournemouth came close to making the breakthrough just past the hour, with Lloyd Kelly's effort just missing the far post, and Ivan Toney actually almost turned it into the back of his own net.

Solanke boosts England hopes with another goal

Brentford were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute when Toney was fouled by Illia Zabarnyi, but it was overturned following advice from VAR.

It did appear that the match, which had an end-of-season feel for long stages, would finish 0-0, but Mbeumo netted what looked to be a winner for Brentford in the 87th minute, firing past Travers from inside the box.

Bournemouth were not finished, though, and Solanke levelled it up at 1-1 in the 90th minute with a brilliant header into the far corner from a Marcos Senesi delivery.

Solanke has now scored 19 Premier League goals this season and is in a strong position to make the England squad for this summer's European Championship.

Brentford still had time to win it, though, with Wissa turning into the back of the net from inside the box after a clever reverse pass from Mbeumo in the fifth minute of injury time. body check tags ::
