Bristol City are on course to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, but have failed to find a way through Oldham Athletic's defence before half time at Ashton Gate.
The Latics, looking to extend a 13-game unbeaten run themselves, started quickly and went close to taking an early lead when Jabo Ibehre flashed a shot narrowly wide in the opening two minutes.
However, City were themselves almost ahead soon after when Aden Flint saw his header drift just off target.
The game was largely quiet in terms of goalmouth action until midway through the first half as James Dayton fired wide for the Latics before Kieran Agard brought a save out of Paul Rachubka at the other end.
Genseric Kusunga then headed over the bar from an Oldham corner before Agard again went close to breaking the deadlock for the League One leaders before the interval.
