Burnley and Queens Park Rangers have failed to find a breakthrough as first plays second in the Championship at Turf Moor.
The visitors had a couple of openings early on with Karl Henry seeing his effort stopped by Tom Heaton and Niko Kranjcar saw his shot blocked as the R's made a positive start.
Full-back Kieran Tripper almost gave the hosts the lead on 14 minutes when his right-footed shot was saved by Robert Green.
He almost found a way through seconds later but couldn't keep his shot down.
Junior Hoilett threatened to score just before the break when his shot was blocked as he bore down on goal.
However, the half was dominated by the five yellow cards shown by referee Simon Hooper as the game became increasingly bad tempered.
Burnley will hold on to top spot if they avoid defeat, but they have played a game more than QPR who are two points back.
