Sports Mole dissects a big win for Burnley as they score their seventh straight win and end fellow contenders QPR's unbeaten start to the season.

Danny Ings's second-half double saw Burnley win their seventh straight league game and end fellow pacesetters Queens Park Rangers' unbeaten start to the season.

After a goalless first half, Burnley's in-form strike duo of Ings and Sam Vokes combined brilliantly. Ings poked home after a marvellous reverse ball from Vokes that carved open the QPR backline.

The icing was put on the cake in the dying moments as Ings finished from the penalty spot after he was bundled over by Joey Barton.

Three points took Burnley three clear at the top of the Championship, with QPR dropping out of the top two to third.

Below, Sports Mole casts its eye over another impressive performance from Sean Dyche's side.

Match statistics:

Burnley:
Shots 9

Possession 39%
Corners 5
Fouls 16

QPR:
Shots 6
On target 1
Possession 61%
Corners 3
Fouls 13

Was the result fair?

Certainly. Burnley just about edged a cagey, bitty first half but then romped home in the second. QPR have been squeezing past opponents for much of the season but showed little fight today.

Burnley's performance

It was the biggest game in a long time for Dyche's side and they delivered in front of an expectant Turf Moor crowd. The confidence is so high in the team and you could see it as the Clarets, who earn significantly less than today's opponents, outplayed Rangers. The defence was solid all afternoon but weren't threatened as Rangers put in their bluntest display of the campaign.

QPR's performance

A poor show today from Harry Redknapp's men. In the first half they upset the home fans with a succession of nasty tackles. Barton could have been sent off after clearly handballing when he had already been booked. Much of the talk beforehand was about Charlie Austin, who joined QPR from Burnley last summer. He did very little up top as the likes of Junior Hoilett and Niko Kranjcar failed to create much for him to pounce on.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Danny Ings: An easy choice here as Ings netted his 12th and 13th goals of the season to win the match. The first goal, in particular, was a gem. He laid off neatly for Vokes before continuing his run into the box where he was found and then took a touch before prodding past the onrushing Robert Green.

Biggest gaffe

Karl Henry almost gifted Burnley an early lead when he played a pass straight at Ings, who had the ball just taken off his toes by Green.

Referee performance

As mentioned above, Andy Haines could have sent off Barton for that first-half handball but generally he handled the meaty challenges well.

What next?

Burnley: The Clarets now face Premier League side West Ham United in the League Cup on Tuesday night before travelling to Millwall in a week's time.

QPR: Redknapp's men have two league games this week as first they go to Wigan on Wednesday before hosting Derby on Saturday.
