Mauricio Pinilla produced a match-winning performance against his former club to help Cagliari Calcio win the Derby delle Isole this evening.
Pinilla, who moved from Palermo in January, opened the scoring on 56 minutes. The striker tapped home from six yards after a low cross from Victor Ibarbo.
The Chilean was again involved on 81 minutes, as the home side doubled their advantage. His low free kick was palmed away by Emiliano Viviano and straight to Daniele Dessena, who slotted in the rebound.
Palermo were given a way back into the game moments later, when Gabriele Perico handled in the area.
Abel Hernandez calmly placed the penalty into the far bottom corner, but Cagliari held on for all three points.
Cagliari are unbeaten in their last four home games.
