Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has revealed that he would like to retain the services of goalkeeper Tom Heaton beyond the end of the current season.
Heaton's current deal at the Cardiff City Stadium is due to expire in the summer and reports have claimed that the 25-year-old is seeking a move away in search of regular first-team football.
However, Mackay is keen for Heaton to stay put and challenge David Marshall for the number one jersey.
"Tom is another ultra-professional and one who is very much a Championship goalkeeper," said Mackay. "To have the two of them pushing each other has helped us.
"We will be talking to Tom's representatives and I would love him to stay.
"I do understand the amount of football he would like to play, but that is the conversation I will be having with him."
Heaton joined the Bluebirds in 2010 from Manchester United.
