Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic as the Bluebirds look to move above their opponents in the league table.

Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic will meet in a Championship mid-table clash in South Wales this weekend with just one point separating the two sides.

The Addicks currently have the upper hand over the Bluebirds, occupying the final spot in the top half of the table with 11 matches of the season remaining.

The visitors also go into the game as one of the form teams in the division, with four wins in their last five games following a run of 14 without a victory.

They have scored 11 goals and conceded just three in that streak, adding two more to their tally in an impressive 2-1 victory over in-form Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Frederic Bulot got both goals in that victory to make it four in five, and he should start again this weekend as the Addicks look to improve on their run of just one win in their last eight away games.

Indeed, only four teams have amassed fewer points on the road this season, with the Addicks only having managed three victories in the league.

The victory over Forest in midweek did come at a cost for Guy Luzon, with Callum Harriott and Igor Vetokele both picking up injuries that are likely to rule them out of Saturday's match.

Chris Eagles and Christophe Lepoint could both make their first starts for the club as a result, but otherwise Luzon is likely to keep changes to a minimum.

Cardiff also go into the game in decent form, with a 3-1 victory over Rotherham United on Tuesday making it just one defeat in their last seven matches.

The majority of those have been draws, however, and Cardiff this weekend are bidding to beat a team above them in the table for the first time in 16 league matches.

To do that, they will have to end a five-match winless streak at home - their worst run since March-April 2012.

They have failed to even score in three of their last four home games against Charlton, while they were held to a 1-1 draw by the 10-man Addicks in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day.

Russell Slade's change up front did the job against Rotherham in midweek and he could stick with the same attacking trio on Saturday, with Kenwyne Jones and Eoin Doyle on the bench once more.

Peter Whittingham is available after suspension in midfield, however, while David Marshall is a doubt having been withdrawn at half time during the win over the Millers.
