Controversial former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is reportedly considering a move for troubled Championship side Derby County.
The 57-year-old businessman, who owns Sports Direct, ended his tenure in charge of the Magpies in October, selling the club to Saudi Arabian-backed buyers in a £300m deal.
Derby have been in administration since last September due to financial misdemeanours and have been deducted a seemingly-insurmountable 21 points this season as a result.
Nevertheless, Wayne Rooney's side have given themselves an unlikely shot at a miracle survival with 10 points from the last 12 on offer, and 63 points still available.
According to The Telegraph, Ashley has spied an opportunity to scoop up the two-time English champions and has tabled a bid of £50m, which is thought to be significantly more than any rival offers.
Administrators Quantuma are hoping to get a deal over the line this month in order to give the club the best chance of Championship survival.
Derby currently sit bottom of the division, 11 points from safety. body check tags ::
