Eintracht Frankfurt captain Pirmin Schwegler has admitted that it was very frustrating to go out of the Europa League on away goals to Porto on Thursday night.
The teams drew 3-3 in Frankfurt following a 2-2 draw in Portugal the week before, which put the away side through. Despite the disappointment, Schwegler said that his side impressed against a very strong opponent.
"We were so close to booking our tickets for the next round," he told Bundesliga.com. "We didn't make that many mistakes, but when we did they proved to be pivotal against a clinical Porto side.
"It's awesome to be able to play against a Champions League calibre side and give a good acount of ourselves. On the other hand though, it's annoying to fall just short. We had a great gameplan.
"No-one can deny that we didn't deserve to qualify. Porto have the better individual players, but we closed them down, worked hard as a team only to be knocked out on away goals."
Frankfurt are back in Bundesliga action on Sunday at home to Stuttgart.
