How England could line up against Hungary

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how England could line up for Thursday's World Cup 2022 qualifier with Hungary.

England manager Gareth Southgate has plenty of big decisions to make for Thursday's World Cup 2022 qualifier with Hungary - their first fixture since the Euro 2020 final.

A hefty contingent of Euro 2020 players have been ruled out of September's battles through injury or illness, with Phil Foden, Ben White, Dean Henderson and Marcus Rashford all forced to miss out.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also a late withdrawal, while Ben Chilwell and Mason Greenwood have been left at home, but Patrick Bamford's call-up represents the biggest selection story out of the England camp this time around.

The Leeds United man will certainly not be granted a start over Harry Kane, though, with the skipper aiming to put all of the summer's transfer speculation behind him after confirming that he would stay at Tottenham Hotspur.

Messages of support poured in for Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Rashford after the horrific online abuse they received in the wake of the Euro 2020 final, but Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish will hope to get the nod out wide either side of Mason Mount.

Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips ought to resume their solid midfield partnership, although Jordan Henderson's return to full fitness and Jude Bellingham's continued rise will give Southgate plenty to ponder.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Kieran Trippier could all lose out to Kyle Walker for the highly-coveted right-back spot, while Luke Shaw, John Stones, Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford could complete an unchanged rearguard.

England possible starting lineup: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Phillips; Sterling, Mount, Grealish; Kane body check tags ::
