Rene Meulensteen hails Fulham's "big statement"

Rene Meulensteen hails the "big statement" that Fulham displayed by earning a last-gasp victory away to Norwich City today.

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen has described his team's last-gasp 2-1 victory over Norwich City as a "big statement" of their intentions to retain their Premier League status this season.

Patjim Kasami cancelled out Gary Hooper's 13th-minute opener for the hosts, before Scott Parker struck in the closing stages of normal time to breathe new life into the team's push for survival after the Cottagers had slumped to eight defeats from their previous nine league fixtures.

Consequently, Meulensteen's men remain in the relegation zone in the top flight standings, level on points with 17th-placed Crystal Palace but the Dutchman is enthused by the message that today's victory sent to their rivals.

"It was a big statement. We've worked so hard, but to start this block of four games over the Christmas period with a win was very important," he told Sky Sports News.

"We're still in the bottom three and there's where we don't want to be, but we'll keep looking forward and looking up and keep the performances going and I think we'll steadily climb up the table."

Fulham travel to the KC Stadium for a clash with Hull City on Sunday.
