Chievo have given their hopes of Serie A survival a huge boost by claiming a surprise 2-0 victory over Genoa this afternoon.
The visitors made a bright start to the game and Riccardo Meggiorini came close with a stinging low drive from the edge of the box that was palmed to safety by Mattia Perin.
Genoa then came close when Diego Perotti curled a strike just over the bar, before Andrea Bertolacci drilled an effort straight at Albano Bizzarri.
Following a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead four minutes after the break when Alberto Paloschi raced onto Meggiorini's flick and kept his composure to slide the ball past Perin.
Bertolacci almost came up with a quick response, but, after being picked out at the back post by Edenilson, he smashed a volley into the side-netting.
Marco Borriello then dragged a shot wide of the far post and saw a header tipped behind by Bizzarri as Genoa continued to put their opponents under heavy pressure.
However, despite the home side's dominance, Chievo struck again as Paloschi was found by Meggiorini's deep cross, before smashing a volley into the ground that bounced over Perin and ended up in the far corner.
The closest that Genoa came to pulling a goal back was through a late strike that Perotti curled wide of the post, but they suffered their first defeat in six league matches.
