Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Women's World Cup clash between Haiti Women and Denmark Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Denmark Women will attempt to book their place in the last 16 of the Women's World Cup 2023 when they go head-to-head with Haiti Women on Tuesday.

Despite losing their opening two games and sitting at the bottom of Group D, Haiti still have the chance to progress to the knockout rounds.

Preview: Haiti Women vs. Denmark Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Competing at their first Women's World Cup, Haiti are still searching for their first goals and points of the tournament as they head into Matchday Three.

After suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to England in their opening game, Haiti would have been hopeful of picking up a positive result against China when their opponents were reduced to 10 players in the first half.

Despite playing over 60 minutes with a numerical advantage, Haiti left the Hindmarsh Stadium empty-handed following Wang Shuang's 74th-minute penalty.

Haiti have now lost their last six internationals and failed to score in three of their last four matches, but they are still in the hunt for a last-16 spot.

The 53rd-ranked side in the world will progress to the knockout rounds if they can beat Denmark and England win against China in the group's other game.

Denmark, who are appearing at the Women's World Cup for the first time since 2007, begun the tournament with a 1-0 win over China thanks to a late Amalie Vangsgaard effort.

However, they were unable to take anything from Friday's meeting with England after a first-half strike from Lauren James condemned Denmark to a narrow defeat.

After two rounds of matches, Denmark are sitting in second position and are level on points with third-placed China, while they are three points adrift of group leaders England.

Having failed to make it out of the group at their last two World Cup finals, the Danes are looking to reach the knockout rounds for the first time since 1995.

While a number of permutations could come into play in the final group game, Denmark know that a win will give them the best possible chance of reaching the last 16, and they will certainly be confident of claiming three points, having won five of their last seven internationals.

Team News

Jennyfer Limage was ruled out of the tournament after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Haiti's tournament opener against England.

Haiti boss Nicolas Delepine could stick with a back four made up of Bethnina Petit-Frere Tabita Joseph, Kethna Louis and Ruthny Mathurin.

Melchi Dumornay was not fit enough to start the defeat to China, but after featuring as a half-time substitute, she is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday.

As for Denmark, Everton's Nicoline Sorensen could be recalled to the side after dropping down the bench against England.

The 25-year-old is set to feature on the left wing, while Janni Thomsen will continue to operate on the opposite flank.

Bayern Munich summer signing Pernille Harder represents one of her county's key attacking threats, and she is expected to lead the line against Haiti on Monday.

Haiti Women possible starting lineup:
Theus; Petit-Frere, Joseph, K. Louis, Mathurin; Moryl, Pierre-Louis; B. Louis, Jeudy, Mondesir; Borgella

Denmark Women possible starting lineup:
Christensen; Sevecke, Pedersen, Boye, Veje; Hasbo, Holmgaard; Thomsen, Kuhl, Sorensen; Harder

We say: Haiti Women 1-2 Denmark Women

Haiti have shown signs of promise in their opening two games despite failing to pick up a point, and we believe that they will produce another competitive performance on Tuesday.

However, we expect Denmark to have enough in the locker to edge out Haiti and record their second victory of the 2023 Women's World Cup.
