Three players saw red in the Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim and Freiburg, with the game ending in a bitter 3-3 draw.
The game kicked into life in the eighth minute as Oliver Sorg fouled Kevin Volland in the box, with Sejad Salihovic slamming it down the middle to give Hoffenheim an early lead.
However, a scrap ensued following the goal and the scorer was sent off after appearing to raise his hand into the face of Oliver Baumann.
The decision buoyed the visitors into a response, with Sorg atoning for the foul by finishing low from the edge of the box following a free kick.
It was the 10 men of Hoffenheim who got back ahead on 25 minutes when Jannik Vestergaard found Volland, who finished superbly from an angle.
Again the lead lasted less than five minutes, however, this time Karim Guede tapping in from close range after Julian Schuster headed a corner into his path.
Francis Coquelin was sent off just before the break to level the numbers on the pitch.
This time Freiburg went ahead through Sebastian Freis but with 13 minutes left Tobias Strobl rifled one into the top corner from outside the box to save a point for the hosts.
There was still time for a final red card as Admir Mehmedi was given his marching orders late on.
