Sports Mole previews Wednesday's friendly clash between Tavistock and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Huddersfield Town will be looking to show a ruthless streak when they face non-league Tavistock in a friendly on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the hosts are eager to get up to speed for another season in the Southern Football League Division One South.

Match preview

When Neil Warnock kept Huddersfield in the Championship, the achievement was expected to mark the end of his legendary managerial career.

Instead, the veteran manager has accepted a contract for the 2023-24 campaign, tasked with trying to keep the Terriers away from the relegation zone.

Combined with the changes that have been made behind the scenes, this is the start of a new era at the John Smith's Stadium, and several players have already left for pastures new.

As it stands, Warnock is yet to make any signings of his own, instead preferring to welcome back the players that impressed during the closing weeks of last season.

Nevertheless, at a time when Huddersfield face Bodmin Town on Monday ahead of this fixture, work will be going on behind the scenes to provide Warnock with the options that he requires to re-establish the Yorkshire outfit as a team capable of earning promotion.

Huddersfield have far more testing friendlies to come later in the summer, with Heerenveen due to travel to their home ground before the end of the month, but Warnock will welcome the opportunity to spend time on the South Coast.

Tavistock finished in sixth place in the Southern League Division One South last season, narrowly missing out on a place in the playoffs.

The Lambs have since returned to action with some local matches with this encounter by far and away the highlight of their pre-season schedule.

Last Thursday, Stuart Henderson's side ran out 3-1 victors at the home of Wadebridge Town, a result which will act as a confidence booster ahead of trying to compete with their more illustrious opponents.

Team News

Warnock's team selection for this game will be dependent on how his players shape up after their friendly with Bodmin on Monday.

Huddersfield ended the season with three successive wins and only one player - Josh Ruffels - who started their victory over Reading has left the club.

Ben Jackson is currently the natural replacement at left-back, but Warnock will take the opportunity to hand minutes to as many players as possible.

Yuta Nakayama has been back in training after a long-term Achilles injury, although it is unclear whether the Japan international will be risked in the upcoming games.

We say: Tavistock 0-3 Huddersfield Town

Warnock will almost certainly rotate his side for this contest on the back of the short turnaround from Monday. Nevertheless, that should not stop the Terriers running out comfortable victors on the South Coast.
