Hull City owners have announced that the newly-promoted Premier League club will be rebranded Hull City Tigers.
Owners Assem and Ehab Allam have claimed that the name change will help provide an identity for the former Championship outfit in the "commercial world".
"Hull City is irrelevant," Assem Allam told the Hull Daily Mail. "My dislike for the work 'City' is because it is common. In the commercial world, the shorter the name, the better. The more it can spread quickly. It is about identity."
The club's crest will keep AFC for the upcoming campaign, but it will be removed and replaced in time for the following 2014-15 season.
Hull will begin their return to the top flight with a clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
