Jose Fonte scored the only goal of the game to help Southampton edge to 1-0 win over Hull City in their Premier League meeting at the KC Stadium.
Rickie Lambert should have given the visitors the lead in the fourth minute of the match, but after latching on to a loose ball inside the box, he curled a strike wide of the post.
The striker had another chance to score three minutes later as he was slipped through on goal, however Steve Harper was quickly off his line to block his effort.
There was a delay in the match following the chance, as Paul McShane received treatment for a clash with his goalkeeper, and eventually had to be stretchered off the pitch.
Southampton continued to dominate the proceedings and Jay Rodriguez was next to threaten, when his header from a corner was blocked on the line.
The home side were then inches away from finding the back of the net after Shane Long headed Ahmed Elmohamady's cross against the post.
On the half-hour mark it was the visitors who saw an attempt hit the woodwork, as Rodriguez's curling effort from the edge of the area came crashing off the bar.
Four minutes from the end of the half Nikica Jelavic did well to work some space for himself on the edge of the box, but his final attempt on goal lacked the power to trouble Boruc.
In the 69th minute Southampton took the lead as Fonte saw his header saved by Boruc, but followed up to send the ball over the line, despite Maynor Figueroa's efforts to clear.
The visitors came close to a second in the final minute when Jack Cork hammered a long-range strike against the bar, but their one goal proved to be enough as they held on to claim all three points.
