Inter Milan have moved into a commanding 2-0 lead following a dominant opening 45 minutes at home to Genoa in Serie A.
The hosts almost got themselves ahead early on, but Mauro Icardi's low drive was kept out by goalkeeper Mattia Perin.
Icardi and Perin continued their duel with 12 minutes on the clock as the forward saw his effort from point-blank range pushed away from danger.
However, Inter made the breakthrough moments later when Rodrigo Palacio tapped in the rebound after Icardi's acrobatic volley was saved.
The home side continued to do most of the attacking, and they came close to going 2-0 up midway through the half when Palacio was thwarted by a fine stop from Perin.
Having been denied twice by Perin earlier in the match, Icardi got his goal five minutes before the break by planting a header past the Genoa stopper from a corner.
