Napoli have beaten Juventus 6-5 on penalties to win the Italian Super Cup following a thrilling 2-2 draw in Doha.
The Bianconeri took the lead inside the opening five minutes when Carlos Tevez capitalised on a mix-up at the back to race clear and slot past Rafael.
Marek Hamsik almost drew Napoli level when his effort smashed against the post, before Tevez had a shot stopped by the keeper.
Jose Callejon then forced Gianluigi Buffon to punch his strike clear, as Juventus held on to their lead going into the break.
It was Callejon who had the first opening of the second half, but after bursting into the box, he dragged his attempt wide of the target.
Rafael Benitez's side came even closer on the hour-mark, as Gonzalo Higuain latched onto a pass over the top, before chipping the ball over the head of Buffon and onto the outside of the post.
Napoli continued to press for an equaliser and in the 68th minute they found the net when Higuain arrived to head in Jonathan De Guzman's cross.
The Naples outfit were unable to build on that goal and they almost conceded a second when Fernando Llorente powered a header just wide of the post.
Arturo Vidal and Tevez then had chances to win it for Juventus, but they both dragged efforts wide as the game headed into extra time.
In the first half of added time Vidal came closest to scoring for Juventus when his low shot was cleared off the line by Kalidou Koulibaly.
Juventus did manage to regain their lead in the 106th minute of the match, as Tevez collected Paul Pogba's pass just inside the box, before turning and drilling a low effort into the bottom corner.
Higuain almost drew Napoli level five minutes later, but after racing onto a ball over the top, his stinging drive was kept out by Buffon.
With two minutes of the match left to play Higuain did score his second, as he reacted quickly to fire the ball home following a scramble inside the box.
The two teams were unable to be separated after 120 minutes of play, so the game headed towards penalties.
Jorginho took the first spot kick and saw his effort saved by Buffon, before Tevez placed a strike against the post in a dramatic start to the shootout.
Faouzi Ghoulam was the first player to take a successful penalty and Vidal replied with a calm finish of his own.
The next eight penalties were successfully converted, before Dries Mertens saw his attempt saved by Buffon.
Giorgio Chiellini then had the chance to win the game for Juventus, but his poor attempt was easily saved by Rafael.
Once again Juventus were gifted the opportunity to seal the match when Buffon saved Callejon's penalty, but Roberto Pereyra blazed his strike high over the bar.
Koulibaly then stepped up to give Napoli a 6-5 lead, with Juventus needing to score their next kick to stay in the game.
However, Simone Padoin saw his effort saved by Rafael allowing Napoli to win the trophy for only the second time in their history.
