Leeds United score twice in the second half to defeat Birmingham City 2-1 away from home and book their place in the FA Cup fourth round.

Leeds United have come from a goal down to defeat Birmingham City 2-1 away from home in their FA Cup third-round replay.

The visitors appeared the hungrier of the two sides in the opening exchanges, with Luke Varney heading just wide inside 10 minutes.

Minutes later Wade Elliott tried his luck from outside the Leeds box but failed to keep his shot on target.

The game continued to be an evenly contested affair until after the half-hour mark when the home side began to take control of the proceedings.

Marlon King was released by Chris Burke on 33 minutes and the Birmingham forward took a shot on the turn from a wide angle, but Jamie Ashdown made a good save in the Leeds goal.

Three minutes later Elliott broke the deadlock at St Andrew's when he volleyed home Nathan Redmond's pass.

However, moments later Varney almost equalised for Neil Warnock's side with a downward header, but was unlucky to see it go just wide past the post.

Leeds increased the pressure in the second half and restored parity in the 70th minute, Ross McCormack firing in from close range after being set up by El-Hadji Diouf.

Diouf himself scored the winner for Leeds with 14 minutes left on the clock.

Paul Robinson was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the Blues area, and the Senegalese striker made no mistake from the resulting spot kick.
