Sports Mole previews Sunday's Premier League clash between Leeds United and Brentford, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Leeds United will be looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season when they welcome Brentford to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites will enter the contest off the back of a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at home on Tuesday, while Brentford suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Thursday.

Match preview

Leeds have found it difficult to show consistency in the Premier League this season, winning three, drawing six and losing five of their 14 matches to collect 15 points, which has left them in 15th spot in the table.

The Whites did manage to pick up a huge three points on Tuesday, though, as a last-gasp penalty from Raphinha saw them record a 1-0 victory over Palace at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are yet to win back-to-back league matches this term, but they have only lost one of their last six in England's top flight and will be desperate to pick up another positive result ahead of four difficult matches against Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Leeds are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games at Elland Road, beating Watford and Palace, in addition to drawing with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City.

The Whites also ran out 1-0 winners when they last hosted Brentford during the 2019-20 Championship season, and they have not lost at home to the Bees since February 2015.

Brentford, meanwhile, will enter Sunday's contest off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Thursday, which was their sixth loss of the 2021-22 Premier League season.

The Bees have won four, drawn four and lost six of their 14 league games this term to collect 16 points, which has left them in 12th spot in the table, six points above the relegation zone.

Thomas Frank's side lost four league games in a row between October 16 and November 6 but then managed to collect four points from two matches against Newcastle United and Everton, which saw them move away from the bottom three.

Brentford have back-to-back home matches against Watford and Manchester United after this weekend's contest, but they have found it difficult in front of their own supporters this term, losing four of their seven games.

Frank's team have only lost two of their seven away league matches, though, and have already beaten high-flying Wolves and West Ham on their travels this term.

Team News

Leeds boss Bielsa said during Friday's press conference that Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford should be available for selection on Sunday following recent spells on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Pascal Struijk is also expected to overcome a hip issue in time for the contest, so Robin Koch is likely to be the team's only absentee for the clash with Brentford.

Bielsa has decisions to make in the forward areas, with Daniel James potentially keeping out Jack Harrison on the left, while Ayling's return could see Stuart Dallas move into a midfield role.

As for Brentford, Kristoffer Ajer, David Raya, Tariqe Fosu, Josh Dasilva, Julian Jeanvier and Mathias Jorgensen will be unavailable for selection at Elland Road.

Head coach Frank is expected to make changes from the side that took to the field for the first whistle against Spurs, with Mathias Jensen and Shandon Baptiste potentially coming into the XI.

The visitors are again likely to line up in a 3-5-2 formation, though, with Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo again featuring in the final third of the field.

Leeds United possible starting lineup:
Meslier; Ayling, Llorente, Cooper, Struijk; Raphinha, Rodrigo, Phillips, Dallas, James; Bamford

Brentford possible starting lineup:
Fernandez; Goode, Jansson, Pinnock; Canos, Baptiste, Norgaard, Jensen, Henry; Mbeumo, Toney

We say: Leeds United 2-1 Brentford

There is still a lot of football to be played this season, but Sunday's clash at Elland Road is a very important match for both sides. It would not be a surprise to see an away win or a draw, but we just have a feeling that Bamford could return to inspire Leeds to a narrow victory over Frank's team.
