Leeds United twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Alexis Mac Allister sent Brighton ahead in the 33rd minute of the contest before Patrick Bamford fired the home team level in the latter stages of the first period.

An own goal from Jack Harrison just past the hour saw the visitors regain their lead, but Harrison then scored at the right end in the 78th minute, with the points being shared at the end of an entertaining contest.

The result has left Brighton in seventh spot in the Premier League table, just three points behind fifth-placed Liverpool with two games in hand, while Leeds have dropped to 19th, one point behind 17th-placed Bournemouth.

The first chance of the match came for Leeds in the 12th minute, with Harrison delivering a brilliant cross into Marc Roca, but the Spaniard's effort was well blocked by Brighton defender Adam Webster.

Brighton had a chance of their own in the 19th minute when Lewis Dunk's header fell for Pascal Gross inside the box, but the midfielder's effort was blocked by Bamford.

Bamford and Crysencio Summerville then both had chances from a Brenden Aaronson cross in the 29th minute, before Luke Ayling fired wide of the post, with Brighton surviving a dangerous moment.

The home side made the breakthrough in the 33rd minute, and it was a brilliant team goal by the Seagulls, with Mac Allister ultimately nodding into the back of the net from close range after the dangerous Kaoru Mitoma had picked out his teammate with a clever header.

Brighton were only ahead for seven minutes, though, with Bamford levelling the scores when his strike from outside the box deflected off Webster and into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Mac Allister should have sent the visitors back ahead in the closing stages of the first period when he was found by Mitoma in a dangerous area, but the World Cup winner somehow missed the target.

Leeds started the second period on the front foot, with Aaronson firing over the crossbar, before Jason Steele had to make a smart save to keep out the United States international's effort.

Brighton took the lead in the 61st minute of the contest, though, and it was an own goal from Harrison, who put the ball into the back of his own net under pressure from Solly March.

Danny Welbeck should have made it 3-1 to Brighton in the 77th minute when he worked some space inside the Leeds box, but the experienced forward missed the crossbar.

Leeds then netted another equaliser in the 78th minute through Harrison, who picked out the top corner with a curling effort after Willy Gnonto had found his teammate from a corner.

Brighton had a chance to win it in the 86th minute when Mitoma broke down the left before delivering into March, but Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier was on hand to claim the ball, and the points were ultimately shared at Elland Road.

Leeds will be back in league action away to Wolverhampton Wanderers next Saturday, while Brighton will welcome Crystal Palace for the M23 derby on Wednesday night. body check tags ::
