A first-half goal from Tommy Smith has given Ipswich Town a 1-0 win against Leeds United at Elland Road this evening.
Mirco Antenucci had the game's first chance on 26 minutes as the Italian striker fired a 20-yard effort, but his shot was deflected into the hands of Ipswich goalkeeper Dean Gerken.
The visitors took the lead soon after, as Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri failed to deal with an Ipswich corner, and Smith met the ball with a header.
Ipswich came close to doubling their lead before half time through David McGoldrick, but his effort went harmlessly over the bar.
After the break Ainsley Maitland-Niles tested Silvestri with a volley, before Ryan Fraser forced another save from the Leeds goalkeeper, as the visitors began to take control of the match.
Town continued to dominate the second half as both Fraser and McGoldrick saw efforts from the edge of the penalty area go wide, before Silvestri saved a McGoldrick strike from distance.
Chris Wood came close to equalising for the hosts on 62 minutes from the edge of the area, but his effort went just wide, before Lewis Cook saw a long-range effort miss the target.
Daryl Murphy had a good opportunity to double Ipswich's lead, but his strike went high and wide, before Cook saw another effort flash wide at the other end of the pitch.
Ipswich could have wrapped up the victory before full time through McGoldrick, but his effort went narrowly wide.
