Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's Champions League Group D meeting with Ajax at Anfield.

Liverpool will look to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League at the second time of asking when they host Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's side suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of Atalanta BC on matchday four to blow Group D wide open, with only two points now separating the top three teams.

Liverpool still have their fate in their own hands and were able to welcome captain Jordan Henderson back from injury at the weekend, but they remain without a host of first-team players.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the Reds' latest injury and suspension news ahead of Ajax's visit.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool's snowball of injury problems began with Virgil van Dijk in the Merseyside derby, with the Dutchman set to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

Naby Keita

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: December 1 (vs. Ajax)

Naby Keita joined the injury list during the win over Leicester and, while the extent of his hamstring injury is yet to be confirmed, he is almost certain to miss a third consecutive match on Tuesday.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

The injury Thiago Alcantara sustained in the Merseyside derby was initially thought to not be too serious, but he has still not featured since and Klopp has already ruled him out of both this match and the weekend game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

James Milner

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

No sooner had Henderson returned from injury than James Milner took his place in the treatment room. The utility man suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, sparking a remarkable row between Klopp and his post-match interviewer over the role broadcasters play in player welfare.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Joe Gomez is expected to miss most of the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury while away on international duty with England. No timescale has been put on his return.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not far away from a first appearance of the season as he continues to battle back from a knee injury, but Klopp has suggested that he will not be back in time for this match or next Sunday's game against Wolves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: December 6 (vs. wolves)

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also not far away from returning from his calf injury, but Tuesday's match may come too soon for him and next Sunday's meeting with Wolves might be a more realistic target.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Xherdan Shaqiri is once again on the treatment table after picking up a muscle injury on international duty. The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but he has not featured since the problem was discovered.
