How Liverpool could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Liverpool could line up for Thursday's EFL Cup fourth-round tie with Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could be working with a near-complete squad for Thursday's EFL Cup fourth-round tie with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Reds are sure to be without the injured Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz, Arthur and Diogo Jota, while Ibrahima Konate will take a few more days to recover after France's World Cup final defeat to Argentina.

However, a host of Qatar representatives have returned to the Kirkby pitches, namely Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but Klopp will not be expected to bring any of them back into the starting XI just yet.

As a result, EFL Cup specialist Caoimhin Kelleher should get the nod in goal, as Calvin Ramsay and Kostas Tsimikas bomb down the flanks, although Andrew Robertson is fit and available to Klopp too.

Eighteen-year-old Stefan Bajcetic can feel confident of earning another start at the base of the midfield, potentially with Harvey Elliott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain alongside him, with the injury-plagued Thiago Alcantara potentially being kept in reserve alongside James Milner and Naby Keita, who is aiming to make his first competitive appearance of the season.

Darwin Nunez came back with a bang in Dubai, scoring a brace off the bench against AC Milan, but Roberto Firmino may be preferred from the first whistle alongside Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Kelleher; Ramsay, J. Gomez, Phillips, Tsimikas; Elliott, Bajcetic, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Firmino, Carvalho
