Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits that he might cry when he says farewell to the home fans in his final game at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he might shed a tear when he says his goodbyes to the home crowd at Anfield on Saturday.

The 34-year-old will play his final home game against Crystal Palace before signing off his 17-year Liverpool career away to Stoke City on May 24.

Gerrard is expected to receive a guard of honour from both sets of players and while he admits that he doesn't tend to cry, he believes that there's a chance that his emotions will get the better of him after the game.

"I know once the game finishes and I say my goodbyes to the fans that are there - I know it's getting televised so it's a good chance for me to say goodbye to the fans worldwide as well," Gerrard said in an interview with Sky Sports News.

"It'll be emotional, not just for me, but for my family, and I'm sure there will be a few supporters who will get emotional as well. That's just the way it is.

"I'm not usually one that sheds tears when I'm emotional, I usually keep it in but we'll have to wait and see. There's no shame in shedding a tear, I don't think."

Gerrard will join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.
