Fernandinho plays down impact of CSKA Moscow stadium ban

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho plays down the impact of playing a behind-closed-doors Champions League clash away to CSKA Moscow.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has played down the significance of CSKA Moscow's stadium ban ahead of tonight's Champions League encounter in Russia.

The Group E clash at the Arena Khimki will be played behind closed doors after the Russian club were handed a three-match ban for their fans' racist behaviour.

However, even without a hostile reception awaiting them in Russia, the Brazilian claims that the empty stadium will not favour City this evening.

"I don't think it will be an advantage for us," Fernandinho told The Mirror.

"It's always good when you play away because the home fans support their team and it gives you more motivation to play well. I don't think this [a closed stadium] is good for either team or for football.

"I've experienced it twice before. The first time was in Brazil and the second time was for Shakhtar, away to Inter Milan."

Kickoff gets underway at approximately 5pm.
