Team News: Sergio Aguero benched for FA Cup final

Manchester City top-scorer Sergio Aguero is left out of the starting XI for the FA Cup final against Watford as Riyad Mahrez retains his place.

Manchester City top-scorer Sergio Aguero has only been named on the bench for this afternoon's FA Cup final against Watford at Wembley.

The Argentine has scored more FA Cup goals than any other player since the start of the 2011-12 season, but despite netting 32 times across all competitions this term he misses out to Gabriel Jesus in Pep Guardiola's starting XI.

Aguero is one of a number of notable absentees for the treble-chasing English champions, with Kevin De Bruyne only on the bench and the injured Fernandinho absent altogether.

Riyad Mahrez retains his place for Guardiola following his starring role in the title-clinching win over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Indeed, the only change from that triumph over the Seagulls is Jesus's start in place of Aguero, whereas Watford make two changes from their final-day defeat to West Ham United.

Cup goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes replaces Ben Foster for what will be his final game for the club, while Adrian Mariappa starts at centre-back in place of Christian Kabasele.

Watford are able to start Jose Holebas after his red card was overturned, while semi-final hero Gerard Deulofeu has overcome a dead leg to also feature.

Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Zinchenko; Bernardo, Gundogan, D Silva; Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling
Subs: Muric, Danilo, Stones, Aguero, De Bruyne, Sane, Otamendi

Watford: Gomes; Femenia, Cathcart, Mariappa, Holebas; Deulofeu, Capoue, Doucoure, Hughes, Pereyra; Deeney
Subs: Foster, Janmaat, Cleverley, Success, Masina, Gray, Kabasele
