How Manchester City could line up against Crystal Palace

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Defending champions Manchester City return to Premier League action on Saturday evening aiming to atone for their shock defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers before the international break.

That loss was a second of the season for Pep Guardiola's and one that puts them eight points behind Liverpool at the top of the table.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are flying high in sixth after recording consecutive wins over Norwich City and West Ham United to give them 14 points from their opening eight league games.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how City could line up for Saturday's showdown.

Out: Leroy Sane (knee), Aymeric Laporte (knee)
Doubtful: John Stones (thigh), Kevin De Bruyne (groin), Benjamin Mendy (thigh)

Stones, De Bruyne and Mendy are all expected to be fit enough to feature against Palace, but Guardiola could rest them with one eye on City's Champions League tie with Atalanta next week.

Ederson should keep his place in goal, while the back four that lost against Wolves is likely to remain largely the same, although Oleksandr Zinchenko could come in at left-back after impressing for Ukraine during the internationals.

City will probably switch to a 4-3-3 for this game, with Rodri expected to anchor the midfield trio alongside Ilkay Gundogan and De Bruyne while David Silva is likely to make an appearance from the bench.

Raheem Sterling could be benched for this game ahead of the Atalanta tie, with Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva the natural fit to replace him on the left of City's front three.

Riyad Mahrez should keep his place out on the right, but Gabriel Jesus will probably get the nod ahead of Sergio Aguero up front following the Argentinian's minor car accident on Wednesday.
