Sports Mole provides player ratings from Manchester United's 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the Europa League.
Sports Mole

Manchester United gave up a first-half lead to draw 1-1 with FC Twente in their opening match of the 2024-25 Europa League on Wednesday night.

Christian Eriksen sent the Red Devils ahead in the 35th minute of the contest, but Twente managed to earn a point courtesy of a brilliant solo effort from Sam Lammers in the second half.

Here, Sports Mole takes a close look at how each player performed in the European fixture, with Man United once again putting in a lacklustre performance.

Man United player ratings vs. Twente: Captain Fernandes unable to inspire Man United

GOALKEEPER

Andre Onana - 6/10

Made a brilliant save just before the hour to keep out a free kick from Sem Steijn, but there will be question marks over his positioning for the goal.

DEFENCE

Noussair Mazraoui - 7/10

Has been one of Man United's best players this season, and the ex-Bayern Munich defender was again a strong performer on the night, but he perhaps could have offered slightly more going forward.

Harry Maguire - 6/10

Had a chance to register early in the second period from a corner, but he fired into the goalkeeper. Was also involved in another late chance, as Man United desperately looked for a second.

Lisandro Martinez - 7/10

Showed some excellent footwork in the second period and was always composed on the ball. Certainly one of Man United's better performers over the course of the 90 minutes.

Diogo Dalot - 6/10

Continued to drift into a midfield area and had a real impact on the match in the first half, but the Portugal international found it difficult to make his mark in the second half.

MIDFIELD

Bruno Fernandes - 5/10

Came incredibly close to scoring in the final 10 minutes with a sweeping effort, but it was another poor performance from the captain, who is struggling to get going this season.

Manuel Ugarte - 7/10

Came in for just his second start and certainly made Man United more solid in the middle. Should have been a part of a home win, but he needed more from those ahead of him.

Christian Eriksen - 7/10

Made the breakthrough with an excellent goal, and he had been playing brilliantly until his mistake led to the Twente leveller. Was replaced in the 79th minute of the contest.

ATTACK

Amad Diallo - 6/10

Has become Man United's first pick down the right this season, and the Ivorian was again a threat in a wide area for the Red Devils, but his end product was not quite there against Twente.

Joshua Zirkzee - 6/10

Was again impressive with his hold-up play, but he only really had one chance, with his strike saved shortly before he was replaced as part of a triple change for the Red Devils.

Marcus Rashford - 7/10

Man United's best player in the first period, with the forward heavily involved, but he faded in the second period and was eventually replaced as the hosts looked for a winner.

SUBSTITUTES

Alejandro Garnacho - 7/10

As expected, Garnacho was a huge threat off the bench and came close to scoring with a curling effort. Simply has to be in the starting side against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Rasmus Hojlund - 6/10

Only made his return from a lengthy absence against Crystal Palace, and it will take time for the Denmark international to get up to speed. Struggled to make a late impact at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo - 7/10

Understandable why he was rested ahead of the Tottenham match, but he had a big influence late on in a more advanced position. Another who is certain to start this weekend.

Mason Mount - 6/10

Brought energy to Man United's pressing for the final 10 minutes, but the former Chelsea playmaker was unable to inspire his side to a late victory in their Europa League opener.

Twente player ratings vs. Man United: Top goalscorer Steijn struggles to make his mark

GOALKEEPER

Lars Unnerstall - 8/10

Made an excellent save in the first half to prevent an own goal from Mees Hilgers and then kept out a powerful Zirkzee drive in the second period, but his best moment came late on when he produced a wonderful stop following a scramble inside the penalty box.

DEFENCE

Bart van Rooij - 6/10

Delivered an excellent cross to set up a chance for Lammers early on, but he did have a number of difficult moments in one-on-one situations with Rashford.

Mees Hilgers - 8/10

Almost scored a spectacular own goal in the first half, but he was excellent from that point forward, with the defender the standout player on the field at Old Trafford.

Max Bruns - 7/10

Was overshadowed by Hilgers when it came to performances at the back, but Bruns can also be extremely proud of his overall display against the 20-time English champions.

Anass Salah-Eddine - 6/10

Was not too involved from an attacking point of view, but he was crucial in the latter stages when Man United put Twente under pressure in search of a second goal.

MIDFIELD

Youri Regeer - 7/10

Like a number of his teammates, he grew into the match, with the midfielder driving his team forward, and he left to a standing ovation from the away fans in the latter stages.

Sem Steijn - 6/10

Twente's top goalscorer this season with seven, and he drew a smart save from Onana in the second period, but the 22-year-old was unable to add to his impressive tally in 2024-25, and he was replaced in the 61st minute.

Michel Vlap - 6/10

Showed some nice touches and was involved in a couple of strong moves for Twente, but he struggled in the early stages of the second period and was substituted alongside Steijn just past the hour.

ATTACK

Ricky van Wolfswinkel - 6/10

Did not offer too much of a threat in the final third, but he used all of his experience to win free kicks and picked up a late yellow card for a tactical foul on Hojlund when the forward was breaking clear.

Sam Lammers - 7/10

Came so close to sending Twente ahead in the early exchanges, with his effort from a narrow angle just missing the target, but he got his goal in the second half, and it was a strong performance from the forward.

Mitchell van Bergen - 7/10

Was replaced in the 74th minute after putting in a huge shift in a wide area. Showed some excellent moments in the first half and was a willing runner during his time on the field.

SUBSTITUTES

Daan Rots - 6/10

Brought energy to Twente during a period when it was needed, and he was vital in the latter stages of the contest when the Dutch outfit had to defend.

Mathias Kjolo - 6/10

Introduced alongside Rots just past the hour, and he also made an impact, with the 23-year-old calm and composed in possession of the ball.

Gijs Besselink - 6/10

Came on for the brilliant Lammers in the 83rd minute but did not see much of the ball.

Gustaf Lagerbielke - 6/10

The on-loan Celtic centre-back was introduced for his debut in the latter stages, and he was able to contribute to the visitors claiming a point at Old Trafford.

Sayfallah Ltaief - 6/10

Came on for Van Bergen six minutes after the leveller, and he was crucial defensively in the latter stages, but he did not see much of the ball in the final third of the field.
