Barcelona attacker Raphinha has said that he is expecting a stern test from Manchester United in the Europa League knockout round playoffs.

The Catalan giants will welcome the Red Devils to Camp Nou for the first leg of their contest on Thursday night before the two teams lock horns once again at Old Trafford next week.

Raphinha was full of praise for Man United when questioned on the club, with the Brazil international knowing that his side will need to be at their best in order to navigate their way past the 20-time English champions.

"I expect a tough match. It's one of the best matches you can play, I hope it will be a good one. They are a difficult team and we know we need to win," Raphinha told reporters on Wednesday.

"We are ready for the match, not only against United, but for the entire season. It's natural that there is fatigue during this stage of the season, but we are now in our best form and ready for the next stage.

"Manchester United is one of the best clubs in the world. They had a difficult time but they are a great team, and they have great quality players."

Raphinha also opened up on his form this season, with the Brazilian facing some criticism for some below-par performances.

The 26-year-old has scored six goals and registered eight assists in 30 appearances for Barcelona this term following his arrival from Leeds United last summer.

"There were matches I played and matches I did not and it's normal. It's my first season here and it's normal that I'm going through an adaption period," he added.

"Now, I'm in my best momentum so far, and I'm still in the process of adapting. I'm happy with my teammates and coaches who teach me everyday.

"I have changed mentally because physically, I have always been very good. It is normal to have some doubts when you arrive at a new club. I see myself as better than when I started and hope to continue like this."

Raphinha, who has scored twice and provided one assist in his last three La Liga appearances, also said that he feels supported by Xavi.

"Private conversations with the coaches are important. It is essential to know that your coach and staff trust you. For me, that was very important because I'm at a new club," the forward added.

Raphinha was linked with a move to Man United before arriving at Barcelona, with the 20-time English champions thought to be admirers of the South American. body check tags ::
