Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag said that Cristiano Ronaldo had "an impact" in Thursday's Europa League contest with Omonia in Cyprus.

The 37-year-old was heavily involved in the European match, having eight shots in total, including hitting the post in the second half, but he was unable to find the back of the net.

Ronaldo was involved in Man United's first of the night through Marcus Rashford, though, before turning provider for the Englishman in the 84th minute.

The 20-time English champions came from behind to record a 3-2 win over Omonia, and Ten Hag has said that he was pleased with the Portuguese's display in Cyprus.

"I think the first two [shots he had produced] good saves from the goalie. He had a couple of chances, also he created a couple of chances. He was in for a good move and run for the first goal with Marcus Rashford, so he had an impact in this game," Ten Hag told reporters.

"I think we created a lot of chances tonight, we count them only in the first half already 14, so there was a lot of threat to the opponent's goal."

Ronaldo's future is again being called into question ahead of the January transfer window, with Galatasaray said to be lining up a mid-season move for the Portuguese.

The forward has only scored once in nine appearances for the Red Devils this season, which was a penalty in the Europa League victory over Sheriff Tiraspol in the middle of September.

Ronaldo has only started once in the Premier League this term, meanwhile, and he was an unused substitute in the Manchester derby with Manchester City on Sunday.

The striker now faces a battle to keep hold of his starting role against Everton in the league this weekend, with Anthony Martial and Rashford both impressing off the bench in Cyprus.

Man United made the decision to remain overnight in Cyprus, and the team will train on Friday morning before boarding a flight back to Manchester in the afternoon.

"Because it's best in relation to recovery and to preparation for the game on Sunday," Ten Hag said when questioned on the decision to remain in the country rather than head straight back to England.

Omonia head coach Neil Lennon remarked that the home side were 'fortunate' that Ronaldo 'did not have his shooting boots on' during Thursday's contest.

"Fortunately for us, Cristiano didn't have his shooting boots on," said Lennon after the contest.

The two teams will lock horns once again at Old Trafford next week, while Man United will also take on Sheriff at home and Real Sociedad away before the end of the group stage. body check tags ::
