Wout Weghorst has said that he is relishing the chance to face Barcelona on Thursday night, with the striker determined to help Manchester United pick up a positive result.

The 30-year-old is with the Man United squad in Spain preparing for the first leg of their Europa League knockout round playoff with the La Liga leaders.

Weghorst is widely expected to start for the Red Devils, with the Netherlands international taking on a key role since his January arrival from Burnley due to Anthony Martial's injury problems.

The striker has said that he is "really looking forward to" potentially featuring at Camp Nou, with "the two biggest clubs in the world" preparing to lock horns.

"Yeah, of course it's a great challenge for us," Weghorst, who has scored once in eight appearances during his loan spell, told Man United's official website. "Of course the two matches with Barcelona are great, but at the end it's about winning and it's about the trophies.

"It doesn't matter which club, or which stadium, wherever you're going to play. We're still active in four competitions and we want to keep playing in them.

"That's why there's only one thing that's counting and that's winning these days. On Thursday in the Nou Camp though, yeah that's a big one.

"You know the history a little bit and you look into it. You see a few clips coming past you but no, [they are] two really big clubs.

"For me, to be honest actually it's the two biggest clubs in the world. It's a great experience, and I'm really looking forward to it. It's the first time for me personally to be in the Nou Camp, I've never been there.

"I've always said I only want to go there if I'm capable to play. Now I can play, so let's get a win there."

Man United head coach Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, is expecting "small details" to make the difference over the two legs of the European affair with Barcelona.

"Of course, you get a certain feeling from every stadium but it's just about imagination and how you want to prepare your team, that they are ready. All the small details can make the difference," said the Dutchman when asked about walking round an empty Camp Nou.

"I do it usually. Always when I come to an away stadium - Premier League or Europe - I go to the pitch. I want to see the pitch, I want to see the quality of the pitch and I take it into my preparation."

Man United will enter Thursday's clash off the back of a 2-0 victory over Leeds United in the Premier League, with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on the scoresheet at Elland Road.
