How Manchester United could line up against Real Sociedad

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester United could line up for Thursday's Europa League Group E clash with Real Sociedad.

Manchester United will be missing no fewer than three attackers for Thursday's Europa League Group E clash with Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium.

The Red Devils need to win by at least two goals to pip the La Liga side to top spot, but Jadon Sancho (illness), Antony (knock) and Anthony Martial (back) are all out of the squad.

On a brighter note, Victor Lindelof has recovered from illness, and there is also a space in the squad for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but Raphael Varane, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe are all sidelined.

Given the importance of Thursday's match, Erik ten Hag should send a strong XI onto the field, with Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire in line to protect David de Gea.

Diogo Dalot's spot at right-back is safe, and Luke Shaw can also feel confident of holding his place on the left, in spite of Tyrell Malacia being given the nod for last week's win over Sheriff Tiraspol.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are unlikely to drop out in the middle of the park, while Bruno Fernandes will occupy the number 10 role before serving a Premier League suspension in Sunday's game with Aston Villa.

Anthony Elanga can feel confident of holding his place in Antony's absence, while Marcus Rashford - fresh from scoring his 100th goal for Man United - is in line to start on the left as Alejandro Garnacho makes way.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned from the naughty step with a late goal in the 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol last week, and the 37-year-old should make his third successive start in all competitions this week.

Man United possible starting lineup: De Gea; Dalot, Martinez, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo body check tags ::
