Manchester United and Middlesbrough have played out a goalless 45 minutes in their League Cup tie at Old Trafford this evening.
Both sides struggled to create any clear chances for much of the first half, and the first attempt fell to the visitors on 17 minutes, as George Friend pounced onto a loose ball in the box before firing a tame effort at United keeper Sergio Romero.
The hosts finally had an effort on goal after the half-hour mark, as Jesse Lingard saw a powerful effort blocked by Daniel Ayala, before James Wilson fired a tame effort towards Boro keeper Tomas Meijas.
Boro almost took the lead before the break, as Romero kept out a chipped effort by striker Kike, before the Argentina international tipped a Stewart Downing effort from 25 yards over the bar.
