Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for the short trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

Manchester City will be hoping to take a significant step towards yet another EFL Cup final when they make the short trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the first leg of their semi-final on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola's side have lifted the trophy in both of the last two seasons and are favourites to make it a trio of triumphs this year - something not achieved since Liverpool won four in a row between 1981 and 1984.

However, United have already beaten Man City this season and were responsible for their last defeat in this competition more than three years ago.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the holders could line up for the contest.

Out: Aymeric Laporte (knee), Leroy Sane (knee)
Doubtful: Nicolas Otamendi (illness), Ederson (illness)

Man City are expected to have Ederson back available after illness, although Claudio Bravo has been preferred in the cup competitions this season and so is likely to keep the gloves for this match anyway.

Nicolas Otamendi has also been battling an illness and will be monitored ahead of Tuesday's trip, while Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane are still a few weeks away from returning.

The likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Bernardo Silva all started in the FA Cup on Saturday and Guardiola could name another strong team for this one, although some rotation is expected.

Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne are among the players who could come back into the side after sitting out at the weekend, while Rodri and Fernandinho are also in contention.

Raheem Sterling is another of the star names who could return to the team, with Man City having the relatively luxury of five days to rest before their next Premier League outing after this match.
