Erik ten Hag equalled Sir Alex Ferguson's record of 30 wins from his first 50 Premier League matches in Manchester United's clash with Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Victor Lindelof netted the only goal of the contest in the second half, with the 20-time English champions making it back-to-back 1-0 victories in the league.

Ten Hag has now won 30 of his opening 50 Premier League games in charge of Man United, which was also the number that the legendary Ferguson reached in the same number of matches.

Jose Mourinho holds the record for the most wins by a manager after 50 games in the top flight of English football, with the Portuguese managing 39 during his time at Chelsea.

Ten Hag said on Saturday that he was pleased with Man United's start to the campaign despite the fact that the Red Devils have already suffered five league losses.

A record of seven wins and five defeats from 12 Premier League matches has left the 20-time English champions in sixth spot in the table, five points off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

"That is a nice achievement (reaching 30 wins in the Premier League) but, in this moment, I can't do anything with it," Ten Hag told reporters after the match against Luton. "I have other concerns.

"What is important is we are not always playing that well this season but you've seen we're stepping up – in Copenhagen and also this performance, creating a lot of chances. I think it gives belief for the future, as I've said, that we're not that far away.

"So, when we start playing very good football, what this team is capable of, then we are competitive for the top four. I'm convinced of that.

"I'm sure other teams will have their setbacks. We already had a lot of setbacks. We dealt with it and now we have to overcome that and step up."

Man United will be aiming to record a third straight win in the Premier League when they head to Everton after the international break.

The Red Devils will then visit Galatasaray for a must-win Champions League match, with the team currently bottom of Group A following last week's incredible 4-3 loss to Copenhagen.

Saturday's win over Luton came at a cost for Man United, with both Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund being forced off the field with apparent knee and hamstring issues respectively.

The club are currently assessing the damage, but the initial suggestions are that Eriksen's issue is more serious than the one suffered by Hojlund, who was able to carry on for a short period after initially feeling his hamstring. body check tags ::
