How Manchester United could line up against Everton

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund could headline a possible double-figure absentee list for the Red Devils' Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Danish attacker went down with a thigh problem during their 1-0 win over Luton Town two weekends ago, and Erik ten Hag has conceded that he will not make a final decision until the weekend.

Hojlund was one of two casualties from the beating of the Hatters, as his compatriot Christian Eriksen damaged his knee and will not be back in action for another couple of weeks, while Jonny Evans and Andre Onana have emerged as fresh concerns since the start of the month.

Evans's status remains unclear, but Cameroon shot-stopper Onana has recovered from the minor issue he sustained over the international period and should be given the nod to line up in goal.

Luton hero Victor Lindelof and the reborn Harry Maguire are set to keep Raphael Varane at bay again, while Luke Shaw could make his long-awaited return to the squad but will likely lose out to Sergio Reguilon for the left-back spot.

In contrast, Aaron Wan-Bissaka - who missed the win over the Hatters due to illness - might be in line for an immediate recall over Diogo Dalot, while Eriksen's absence opens the door for Sofyan Amrabat to partner Scott McTominay in the middle.

Unless Anthony Martial makes an unexpected appearance, Hojlund's likely absence could force Ten Hag to deploy Marcus Rashford as his central striker, opening up a spot for Antony to return to the final third, where captain Bruno Fernandes is a shoo-in.

Alejandro Garnacho was largely ineffective versus Luton too, so Mason Mount may also be considered for a rare start, while Casemiro (thigh), Lisandro Martinez (foot), Tyrell Malacia (knee), Amad Diallo (knee), Facundo Pellistri (knock) and the suspended Jadon Sancho are also part of the visitors' lengthy absentee list.

Manchester United possible starting lineup: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Reguilon; Amrabat, McTominay; Antony, Fernandes, Mount; Rashford body check tags ::
